When it comes to architectural guardrails, there’s no choice more sophisticated than a glass railing. Glass railings are perfect for commercial interior or exterior guardrails, balconies, high rise rooftop decks, or stair applications. They offer a modern, elegant appearance and add value to any property, from multi-family apartment complexes to educational institutions.
This post focuses on our favorite type of glass railing – the Base Shoe Railing – an award winning system known for its durability and attractive appearance.
Aquaview’s Fully Frameless Base Shoe Railing offers fall protection without the need for any posts, providing a seamless unobstructed view. We use CR Laurence’s 8B aluminum base shoe (Architectural Records 2014 product winner) and patented dry glaze Taper-Loc system. This glass railing system has been tested and approved by structural engineers to withstand a concentrated load of 200lbs and uniform load of 50plf. It is our strongest system available, perfect for high-wind zones and balconies.
Our railing system is available in either ½” thick tempered glass or 9/16” laminated glass to meet respective building codes. Base shoe cladding is available in Brushed Stainless, Polished Stainless, or Black-Bronze to match the existing décor. Cap railings are also available in matching finishes, in addition to our custom wood top rail.
The base shoe can be surface or fascia mounted to a variety of substrates. Costs are reduced for the customer thanks to the innovative dry-glaze Taper Loc system, which allows for quick and easy installation (up to 50% faster than wet-glaze installations!).
